Solar energy: Requirements on bearings for single axis solar trackers

The bearings of single axis solar trackers have to withstand unfavourable ambient conditions like UV exposure, high and low temperatures, sand etc. - for a lifetime of 25 years with, at best, no failure and with a minimum of maintenance effort. Under these conditions, a pillow block construction made of high-performance plastic with an incorporated lubricant has proven to be a very good choice - in practice and under tough long-term tests in the laboratory.
